Family docs become a dying breed

Family doctors, who meet the broadest and most basic health care needs, are being driven from the field by age, rising business costs (especially malpractice insurance) and increasing job pressures. More than a quarter of Michigan 's 12, 700 primary care physicians are at retirement age, while most of today's students in Michigan 's medical schools are being lured into specialty fields.
